Trayvon Dickerson, also known as Trayonce, is a professional makeup artist chasing his dreams to beat the faces of your favorite celebrities. While currently residing in Killeen, TX, at only the age of 20 he has consistently mastered his craft which led him to create his own business, So Bossy. The crazy part is that this is only the beginning for how far his talent will go.
In this Q&A, he talks about his journey into the MUA community, the challenges that come with growing a social media following and where he sees his creativity heading in the near future.
When was your first introduction to the world of makeup?
My first introduction into the makeup world was my sophomore year in high school in 2014. I remember I would do my friends and classmates makeup whenever they would ask me for special events and occasions. Even though in the beginning it was just a hobby to me they still would “tip me” for my services, which led me to learn the value of my worth.
When did you realize that you wanted to take your artistry from your bathroom/bedroom mirror to actually becoming a MUA and create So Bossy?
I realized it when I was in high school honestly. Like I stated earlier I would do my friends and classmates makeup for senior pictures, prom, graduation, etc. So, from the jump I was experienced with different skin types/tones.
Another thing was my craft was always quality, so I knew others would want to see it and either learn more about it or pay me for it.
You snap on each look on your social media feed. Is coming up with new looks always second nature to you or have you found it at times to be draining creative wise?
Second nature because it’s easy to depict what type of look to do. Draining when it comes to which colors to choose and pair, especially because personally I never want my looks to look familiar or like any other artist.
For social media influencers, I don’t think people realize how much energy both physically and mentally it takes for them to keep up their image and brand. What have been your own personal challenges since gaining a following?
Being and remaining consistent because I don’t necessarily like to wear makeup that often so I kinda suck at uploading new looks. Also, maintaining a relationship with my audience due to lack of connection.
When you’re in need of creative inspiration, who are your go-to’s?
I actually don’t necessarily go to another artists page to look for inspo before I do a look because like I stated earlier I wouldn’t want my look to appear familiar. I would literally sit for hours before actually starting my makeup.
If you were able to beat any celebrity’s face, who would it be?
Beyoncé, duh lol.
First makeup product you ever purchased?
LA girl pro concealer.
First favorite brand?
Anastasia Beverly Hills and will always remain my favorite.
What are a few tips you have for makeup beginners?
Stay consistent in your craft & know your worth.
What are affordable staple products every girl or guy should have?
Cotton pads, hand sanitizer, Q tips, witch hazel, alcohol, paper towels, & a toothbrush LMAO.
What kind of growth as a MUA do you hope to see for yourself in the near future?
I hope to see growth in my consistency and of course as well as my craft. I hope I become the celebrity MUA I aspire to be and I receive everything I deserve.
