Can you believe that The Cheetah Girls came out 15 years ago? I feel nostalgic and elderly at the same time.
I'm a Disney girl and that will remain forever. I find myself watching classic movies from back in the day when today's films aren't cutting it for me.
After watching TCG for the gazillionth time, it hit me that all the messages in their music is what I'm still learning to this day at the age of 21. The soundtrack wasn't just filled with bops, but were important lessons that were supposed to be instilled at an early age.
Who knew Disney writers were that deep?
"I've made mistakes before/ But I know I'm not perfect/ But it's okay cause who could ever be?"
"As long as I give my best/ It won't matter what no one says/ Cause deep down in my heart I got the power to make it all happen"
Galleria Garibaldi and Chanel Simmons were spilling facts to my 6-year-old self that I would need down the road!
When it comes specifically to social media, sometimes we get caught up with trying to prove ourselves and subconsciously compete with others. If you say you've never looked at someone's page and did a mental Venn diagram comparison, you're a liar. It's normal, but it's not healthy. You may not realize it, but constantly feening for the lives of others has an effect on the way you perceive yourself.
But, let's remember that A) You're only seeing parts of their life that they want you to see and B) These people you're aspiring to be aren't perfect. People can reach a certain level of success, but that doesn't mean that they're exempt from failing sometimes just like you.
Keep your eyes on your own journey and gradually become your best self by creating monthly goals, putting your best foot forward in all that you pursue and learning from failure. Continue to stay patient through your process and as I like to say: Don't be bitter, be inspired.
All the successful people you're seeing as you scroll down your timeline should be reminders that you too can also flourish and you have the power to. There's room for everyone to win.
"I can slay my own dragon/ I can dream my own dreams/ My knight in shining armor is me"
These days people make it seem like being single equals you're miserable. Wrong.
Being single and independent serves as an advantage because you can focus on learning more about yourself every day. You may think you have a great sense of who you are, but in your 20's you're subject to constant change especially if you're in college.
What you're interested in most likely has changed over the past few years. It's common to outgrow certain beliefs you had in the past or even simply if you've decided that you prefer Thai food over Chinese. As we age, our taste and what we want out of life is going to be reshaped.
Whether that be about what you want out of your life in the near future or hobbies & organizations you've discovered that you want to be involved in. Your 20's are all about taking new directions and going through trial-and-error of what works for you and what doesn't.
The nightmare we want to avoid is jumping into a relationship with someone without being 100% grounded in ourselves and forget who we are without them. It's critical for you to remember that you're good with or without anyone else. Follow the wise words of The Cheetah Girls and always be your own knight in shining armor.
Each Cheetah Girl is an example of the type of person we should want to be in our 20's.
She is fearless, ambitious, goal-oriented and a boss who believed her dreams were attainable through hard-work and persistence. Today, she would be labeled as "bad and boujee".
"Confident" is the best word to describe Chanel. She isn't afraid to be bold and she makes sure to make a mark in any room that she enters.
Aqua is that carefree Black girl that everyone loves. She makes the most out of sour situations by always being the life of the party.
She is someone who soars over obstacles without complaining and stays optimistic about her future.
The Cheetah Girls is a classic Disney Channel film by how it taught about being confident, self-love, the endless possibilities of chasing your dreams and women empowerment. It's a guide of how to take control of the best years of our lives.
