Chelly The MC, also known as Northeast Baby, continues to prove with her music that she's dedicated to keep putting D.C. on the map.
The 22-year-old started writing poetry when she was young which turned into rapping at 15 years old. She originally wanted to just feature on songs, but she pushed herself to come into her own as a rapper.
Her popular single, "Northeast Baby", was an unexpected hit and led her to win two Titan Arts Awards for "Video of The Year" and "Female Hip-Hop Artist of The Year". She also was able to open up for one of her biggest rap inspirations, fellow D.C. rapper, Lightshow. The buzz from 2017 has made her come even harder and drop more heat consistently.
Chelly recently dropped a three-track mixtape titled, 3 The Hard Way.
The "We Don't Love Em" remix is my favorite! Her teaser of the remix on social media made me super excited for it to finally drop. Each song on the mixtape gets you hype, but there's something about "We Don't Love Em" that makes it my future anthem for the summer. She even got some love from Hoodrich Pablo Juan on Twitter. Hopefully there will be a music video for the track.
She's not only a rapper, but she also has a YouTube channel. She creates vlogs, makeup tutorials and GRWMs. Her channel allows her fan base to gain more of a sense of not just who she is as Chelly The MC, but just Chelly.
What I love most about Chelly is that with every song and video, listeners are able to fall deeper in love with her genuine, bubbly and fun personality that matches her signature fiery locs. She doesn't need a fake persona to gain support of her music.
