After the one year anniversary of SweetSexySavage that passed a few days ago, Kehlani continues to fuel fan anticipation for her new music that's on the way. And it's coming very soon, she says!
SweetSexySavage was an underrated album in 2017, yet the album appeared on the year end best albums list of Billboard, Rolling Stone and other media publications. The second single from the album, "Distraction", was nominated for a Grammy Best R&B Performance. She had a successful world tour and was named and awarded by Billboard's Women in Music.
With each project Kehlani drops, I see immense growth and always wonder how she will excel more than she already has. And, each time I'm amazed by her work ethic and grind. From the looks of it, 2018 is going to be a bigger year for her because she's coming even harder.
Kehlani expressed on Instagram that SweetSexySavage was the album that helped her find herself again and also helped in her healing process. Not only was the album a main source of upliftment for her, but it was a fun album that boosted her energy and strengthened her spirit. It's clear that after healing Kehlani is completely in her element and has been dedicated to the studio.
This next project is going to be next level R&B. And, I know this because she has posted pictures on Instagram working with some legends that have worked with the biggest R&B artists from Mariah Carey to Toni Braxton. Babyface, Jermaine Dupri and Bryan Michael-Cox. She has even had the chance to work with R&B queen, Mary J Blige.
There are definitely going to be a few 90s & early 00s inspired tracks as we've seen with previous tracks like "Too Much" and "Down For You".
I've been a fan of Kehlani since her mixtape, Cloud 19, and I still hold it dear to my heart as my favorite project of hers. But, with how hard she's been going crazy in the studio she may even surpass my expectations and snatch Cloud 19's current crown.
I'm extremely excited to hear what she has been cooking up for the past few months. How soon is very soon, Keh?
